What’s Special About This Concert:
The concert opens with Chabrier’s España, a brilliant orchestral postcard inspired by the composer’s travels through Spain, bursting with dance rhythms, color, and infectious energy.
Guitarist Chris Unzicker performs Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, one of the most beloved guitar concertos ever written. Its iconic slow movement evokes the gardens of the royal palace at Aranjuez and remains one of the most emotionally powerful moments in the orchestral repertoire.
Unzicker previously collaborated with the orchestra this summer, and his return brings a fresh perspective to a work that sits at the heart of the Spanish guitar tradition.
Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol closes the program with a dazzling display of orchestral color, featuring virtuosic solos throughout the ensemble and drawing on Spanish folk melodies and dance forms.
Together, these works explore Spain through the imaginations of composers from across Europe, creating a program rich in rhythm, atmosphere, and instrumental brilliance.
